Another dry spell

It has been a little while since I last posted, a busy couple weeks at least.  If you follow Mama Bear’s blog you know we went to NJ to visit some cousins for a few days over spring break.  The youngest and their daughter have become fast friends and thanks to cell phones and texting have built a solid relationship I think.

For me, well life just stays busy.  We came back last Sunday and Monday was a work day, and it went downhill from there… LOL  The day before we left the dryer “sighed” for the last time, so coming home to needing to replace that was just one more headache.  That is still not done, but the new dryer is sitting downstairs waiting to be installed.  I have to rerun all new venting for it,I gather new dryers run hotter than the old ones did and with all the scares about dryer fires it just seemed worthwhile to do it right putting the new one in.  Hopefully that gets finished tomorrow.

We also bought another truck, the little white one has been gone for a while and Mama Bear has come up with a reason every week why we needed to replace it, well maybe not quite every week, and I do agree with her it is convenient having one.  So big red is now sitting in the drive…

Among today’s projects was finishing the entryway light.  We bought a new light to replace the ceiling fan light that has hung in our entryway since we bought the house.  We decided we didn’t really need the fan, and changing light bulbs in it was terribly painful, and it had gotten dingy and old looking, so a new light was in order.

When I took out the old ceiling fan, to my amazement, the bracket was being held up not by an electrical box, but by a small bracket laying on top of the drywall of the ceiling… yes, the fan was hanging from those two small bolts, with the wire run through a hole in the middle, no box at all…

Ceiling fan support

Ceiling fan support

An hour of four letter words, cutting a hole in the ceiling and putting in a cross brace support and an electrical box that will hold a new light, or a ceiling fan if we ever decide we want one again, then wiring and hanging and presto bango…

We decided to smoke today.  Mama Bear brought home 16 pounds of pork butt this week, talk about bringing home the bacon… So I was up at 5AM this morning, so I’m a little tired now.  I cleaned them and put the rub on last night.  One of them I cut slits in and stuffed with garlic, just to see how it comes out.  I had seen someone do that on a cooking show.  If I can remember I’ll post a few pictures tonight.
